I looked down the long hallway of cells on Level E. I couldn’t tell if the last cell was open or not from the stairwell but I had to trust that Carrie knew what she was doing. Adam and I didn’t need to talk on the way up to Level A. We kept near each other and watchful of the empty halls around us.

When we got to the security room, I let Adam go in first. He set Sean’s body down next to the other four already there. Then he offered me a hand. I gave him one end of the tarp and unfurled the other end. Even as large as it was, the tarp wasn’t big enough to cover them all. I grimaced at the hands and feet sticking out and turned away.

“Let’s get to Level B and get this done.” Adam gestured to the door, allowing me to exit first.

I nodded and silently prayed that this trap not only worked, but also killed the Minkowski dead for good. If it didn’t work, a lot more of us were going to die and there weren’t that many of us left.
